Abandoned CartsNudge vs discount offer

Discount Offers

Touch 2 of the abandoned cart sequence can include a discount code to incentivize checkout completion.

How it works

When Offer a discount on message 2 is enabled:

  • Touch 2 uses the offer template instead of the nudge template
  • The message shows the discount percentage and code
  • Customer taps the recovery link to apply the discount at checkout

When disabled, touch 2 sends a simple nudge with the product name and shop name — no coupon.

Setup

  1. Create a discount code in Shopify Admin → Discounts (e.g. CART10)
  2. Open Abandoned cart settings
  3. Enable Offer a discount on message 2
  4. Enter the Discount code (must match Shopify exactly)
  5. Set the Discount % (display) shown in the message (default 10%)

The discount code must exist in Shopify before you enable the toggle.

Template variables

The offer template uses:

  • {{discount_percent}} — Display percentage
  • {{discount_code}} — The Shopify coupon code
  • {{recovery_url}} — Link back to checkout

Map these in Template variables.

Tips

  • Use a single-use or limited discount to control costs
  • Test the code on your storefront before enabling
  • Monitor recovery rate on the Abandoned carts dashboard
